PSA: God Sighted on My Morning Drive

“Are there any among the idols of the nations who can send rain? Or can the heavens [of their own will] give showers? Is it not You, O Lord our God? Therefore we will wait and hope [confidently] in You, For You are the one who has made all these things [the heavens and the rain].” Jeremiah 14:22 AMP

Just a normal morning drive to work

As I was driving to work this morning, I was thinking about all these little things God has done in the past few days. I'm referring to them as God sightings. In my list, there were a couple of things that I thought: "This could or could not be what I consider a God sighting."

I went under a tree, and I saw a few drops of water on my car. I didn’t think too much about it, as the leaves could have been holding water. It started pouring. You know how symbolically rain can signify God’s presence? It was as if God was telling me, “Yes, that was all me.”

Rain is a significant element in the Bible, symbolizing God's provision, blessing, and sometimes judgment. It is a manifestation of God's sovereignty over creation, demonstrating His care and sustenance for all of humanity, regardless of their moral standing.

In summary, rain in the Bible is a profound symbol of God's provision, grace, and sovereignty. It illustrates His care for all creation and serves as a powerful reminder of His desire for all people to experience His goodness and turn to Him in faith.

A few more details that makes this cooler

Because I was thinking about God sightings, I actually took a wrong turn this morning. I pulled up the GPS to tell me where the traffic was and the fastest route to get to work. Nearly every traffic light was green or was turning from red to green as I approached it.

When the rain came, I was concerned about getting soaked walking from my car into work. Before I turned onto the street, the rain had completely stopped. I pulled into work with completely dry clothes and hair and a wet car.

What makes this short story even crazier is that I checked the radar, and there was not even a little green spot on the map. I was already in awe of God before the rain came, but now I’m absolutely speechless. God was talking, and I got to listen.

God provides.

This has been a recurring theme in my posts and in my life lately. Just as God has provided for and during and after my mission trip, my drive to work, and my spiritual growth, the Bible testifies of God’s providence many times.

Just as God has, God will. God is not only for me, but He is also for you! Trust me when I say this: God has been and will continue to provide ways for you to know Him. Our simple task is to receive what God offers us.

My drive to work could have just been a drive and the rain as rain, but because I know God is always on the move, I’m looking out for those blessings and receiving them just as I have received Him as my Savior.

And just so you know, my life has not always been like this. After I accepted God’s call to come to Him, it’s not like I immediately saw all these things. By God’s grace, I have grown to be able to see better. As I continue to surrender more of my life to God, my point of view is constantly expanding into what God wants me to see.

What God Wants Us to See

The presence of God can also refer to a unique revelation of God to humanity. The Lord told Moses to consider the tabernacle (and later the temple) as the place where He chose to reveal Himself; thus, the tabernacle was where to find God’s presence (Deuteronomy 19:17). Earlier, Moses had encountered God’s presence at the burning bush (Exodus 3:4–5). David spoke of God’s presence at Sinai: “The earth quaked; The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God; Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God” (Psalm 68:8, NASB).

We sometimes make a distinction between the all-pervading presence of God (His omnipresence) and the manifest presence of God. God’s manifest presence is the result of His overt and unmistakable interaction with us. When Israel camped at Sinai, God had been there all along, of course. But when they saw the fire and heard the trumpet and experienced the earthquake, they were in the manifest presence of God. The Bible describes the event as God’s “descending” to Sinai and “meeting” with the children of Israel (Exodus 19:17, 20). They were in the presence of God in a special way. As God used physical, earthly means of communicating with His people, they got the point that God was there and that they were in His presence.

“O God, when You went out before Your people, When You marched through the wilderness, Selah. The earth trembled; The heavens also poured down rain at the presence of God; Sinai itself trembled at the presence of God, the God of Israel. You, O God, sent abroad plentiful rain; You confirmed Your inheritance when it was parched and weary.” ~ David (Psalms 68:7-9 AMP)
