REMEMBER Gratitude, The Solution to Envy

Updated: Dec 18, 2024

Remember Gratitude post-Thanksgiving.

Remember Gratitude is the Enemy of Envy.

It’s no coincidence that I listened to "The Envy Trap" by Rick Warren on Thanksgiving Day. Traps of envy are laying around for each of us every day at every turn. We compare ourselves to our friends, our families, our neighbors, our peers, our coworkers, and even strangers. We compare successes, failures, relationships, wealth, abilities, numbers, ranks, scores, ministries, and more. No area of life is free from the temptation of envy, and unfortunately, envy robs us of joy. As our envy grows, our contentment shrinks. We have to fight this temptation of envy by remembering what we have to be thankful for.

Take time today to thank God. It's the day after Thanksgiving, and we still have reason to be grateful. If you have sat around a table full of food with friends and family, you have reason to be grateful. More importantly, if you have Jesus, you have the ultimate reason to be grateful. Our previous position entangled in sin was once helpless. That was until God called us graciously and mercifully to Himself. Now, we can live in contentment knowing what our future holds and who holds us in the here and now. There is no room for envy when we know God loves us and has created us uniquely to be His. We glorify God when we are actively thankful for our Savior and when we act in gratitude because of His great love for us.
